hi, i need to replace the evaporator in my 92 b2600i and have a question. for those of you that have done this, where did you get the evaporator? ive ordered many things from ackits.com including a new evaporator and have never had a problem until now.
they sent me a evaporator but the low side line was a little different, everything else was fine. i called them and they sent out another one thinking the first one was a defect. just got the second one and its the same.
where have you guys gotten replacements? and if anyone has a good one they are selling please let me know.
thanks

Supra - I have replaced my evaporator core (due to a leak), mine's a 1988 B2200.

Guess what - I bought my evaporator core from AC Kits (actually, their walk in service and parts store here in town is AMA Auto Refrigeration), this was back in 2002, still using it, works great.

I went on ACkits.com and looked at the parts listing for the 1988 B2200 and the 1992 B2600i, and the evaporator parts shown are all exactly the same. So which evaporator did you order/get? The 27-33198 they call a plate/fin type which doesn't look at all like mine. They also list a 27-33650 which they call a copper tube and fin type. Mine is copper and brass tube type, assume it's the second number, but I think I might have that number written down at home.

Back then they only had the copper/brass one available, and the dealer one was 2X the price and special order, this was in stock across town. I see they also now sell a complete evaporator core/evaporator case assembly as a unit (27-33650), that would include the expansion valve inside, I may have gone that route for simplicity had it been offered then.

Did AMA say they had two different types available? Did you talk to TRB or Jack when you called? 602-233-0090.

Installation including evacuating and recharging with R-12 took a full morning; my 11 year old daughter and I.

Thank you so much for the reply. I got the plate design one but the low side comes out at a slightly different angle and is about 2" shorter. Not sure what's going on here but the core I pulled out was oem. I've been talking to steve and he has been very helpful, really has been going ou of his way.
Not sure what to do at this point, maybe I'll try installing it and see what happens ( really doubt that line will match up). Or ill try to get the old one fixed. I'll try to post pics uP a bit later.

Supratreo the aluminum pipes are usually pretty malleable. It looks like you could easily bend the pipe forwards, then down to get it where you need it. Be extremely careful and consult AMA before you bend anything though.

The angle wouldnt be hard to do but it's too short, I can't do anything about that by flexing the tubes. Any ideas?

Get one that matches the dimensions of the one that was in there, even if you have to buy from Mazda. I wouldn't Mickey Mouse with AC connections, that could "burn" you with leaks or poor performance...

Well, I called them today and they will be refunding my money and all I have to do is send 1 evap back, they told me to trash the other one along with the drier. Maybe I'll use it and have another line made.
