I've got a ground wire that grounds the sedimentor [diesel b2200], and the fuel tank too, and then it goes all they way to the engine bay. It was taped up with the rear harness. This wire has burnt, and I'm scratching my head. The aftermarket water temperature sensor has been smoking off the insulation too, so I clipped that off for now.

Why does the burnt ground wire travel so far away, 10 feet to the engine bay to ground out? Couldn't I just ground it nearby, or is this for safety, away from the fuel?

Please excuse the double post, I needed to bump this thread up.

The problem has returned. I took apart the rear harness, inspected and taped it up, put a new #X-11 ground wire in there, and all was well. It runs, everything seems to function except for my cig lighter and dash lights. So today I shut the hood completely with the battery still connected, and lo and behold right away the X-11 sedimentor and fuel tank ground wire started smoking like crazy. It's definitely something to do with the hood shutting. Sigh... Calling the mobile mechanic tomorrow, anything I should know? Anyone know what it could be or how to find it?

Diesel setups are pretty foreign to most of us. We didn't get the diesel variants in the states so most of us might not be able to help. can you see anything that the hood might be coming in contact with when it closes? Any wiring?

Nope, I've taped up everything. I'm thinking maybe the hood is touching the battery contacts, or when I slam the hood shut it bumps a short into contact somehow. I'm gonna have the mobile mechanic check it out.

*****FIXT!!!!!!!!!!*******

Sonofabitch. I found it. Burn marks on the hood. Bam. The hood was contacting the battery posts when it was totally shut. SONOFABITCH. Hooah! I will have many adventures with this truck.

It sounded like the hood was connecting somewhere when you said everything was fine until you closed the hood. Pictures might have given it away a little easier glad you got it figured out. Were you able to tell the mobile mech that you figured it out and didn't need him, or did he find where it was shorting out?

Told him I didn't need him. Last time they taped up the water temp sensor wire and called it fixed, what a joke haha. Can't believe it took me months to figure this out. Sure did learn a lot. Thanks man
