Hi,

I think you'll need to provide more information for us to help.

Did you ever replace the ignition switch?

Was it running well when it quit?

Is it stock or has it been modified?

That's called "famous last words" everything is good, just won't start. How did you establish that there was spark, was fuel, etc.?

If timing belt isn't broken, and the engine cranks/spins at normal speed, then you need to use aerosol starting fluid to determine whether the issue is fuel or spark related. If the truck runs after spraying in starting fluid and you mash down pedal and crank, even a few seconds, then the issue is not spark related, it's fuel related. Try that test a few times.

Be careful with ether. Once an ether engine, always an ether engine.

Yes it was running well before it quit I was cruising along at 55 and it just died on me it's a stock motor and no I have never replaced the ignition switch. I know it's getting spark because I pulled and replaced the plugs and had a friend crank the motor while I verified each plug was getting spark. I know it's getting fuel because I can see it in the carb when the motor turns over I also pulled the timing cover to verify the timing belt was not broken and to verify that the timing belt was correctly installed. I also tried to start it with either and got the same results I even did a compression check and pulled the valve cover just to see if anything was glaringly wrong and still no dice

What color was the spark? Blue spark is what you want to see. A weak ignition coil can lose spark under compression but still show spark when the plug is being tested outside of the cylinder head. Also what was your compression numbers?

Couple of thoughts: condition of the rotor button inside the distributor?Crank pulley is mounted to the crank via nut AND a slotted keyway with Woodruff key.If key wears out or breaks, pulley will work loose and spin on shaft. When u rotated the engine with starter was cam belt cover off and did u see the belt rotating as it should? Hope this helps.bj

I did the compression check about two weeks ago don't recall the exact numbers but they were well within spec and pretty consistent . I'm going to give replacing the coil a shot thanks for all the help everyone

You cannot assume the timing belt is good because it isn't broken. A lot of times the cogs break loose from the inside of the belt and then the belt slips on the pulleys and that can be why your truck just shut off.

WAIT !!! In first post you stated you were getting spark. If so, why would you touch the coil?????
