Hello! My brother in law and I installed a new clutch on my '88 B2200. He left me to my own devices to re-install the shifter. I re-installed it and it will go into all 5 gears except for reverse. Its hard to shift into first but it goes. It doesn't shift as smoothly as before. The clutch works.
When trying to shift into reverse it just won't push back into the slot. It doesn't grind and the reverse lights don't go on. It just won't go into that gear.
I'm not sure if something just needs to be adjusted or if I broke something internal. Any suggestions for things to try would be greatly appreciated.
Did you fully bleed all of the air out of the clutch? Sounds like the clutch is dragging slightly, reverse is not synchronized like the 5 forward gears so if there is drag, reverse will be the first one to not work.
I would visually check the fluid level in the clutch master and then verify the slave cylinder under the truck is not leaking fluid around the push rod dust boot.If it worked prior to this work something is not correct or worn.
It doesn't grind or anything when you try to put it in reverse. Even though I bled the clutch I think you may be right. It isnt as firm as it was before. I replaced the slave when I was doing the clutch. Would the dragging clutch make it feel like reverse is blocked?
