No need to drop the crank. Just pull the old seal and install the new one.
Keep in mind, you may have a groove worn into the crank by the old seal. If so, you'll want to put a repair sleeve on it. If you're not sure how bad the groove is, I would put one on anyway. Better to have it and not need it than the other way around and have to drop the transmission and do the job over again.
While the tranny is out, you might look at the input shaft seal on it too. Same rules apply.
I don't know the age of your clutch/throwout bearing/pilot bearing... but, if you don't know if they're recent, I would strongly consider replacing that pilot bearing and maybe the throwout bearing too. $15 or so is a very small insurance policy to make you don't have to go back in there before the clutch is ready for replacement.

When in doubt - I would change that pilot bearing! You will need a small puller for it! Get one before hand.
