We, the Mazda-B community, cannot seem to figure out why the trucks were done that way. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason.
My guess is the two-piece(which tends to be a quieter setup) came in the LX models... but I really haven't based that assumption on actual comparison between models. I just know that two piece shafts are better at isolating noise/vibration.
