so i went to put the truck back on the road and i found a leak after doing all my checks. its leaking like a sift out of the front of then engine. I pulled the top timing cover off and cant see anything leaking. it looks like it would be coming out where the front main seal is. i read in my haynes manual and it says that the water pump has two weep holes in it and that when the seal or pump goes bad it leaks out of these weep holes. this is the only thing i can think of. engine is a pretty fresh rebuild with no more than 15k on it. been sitting for a few months with an occasional crank and run. any help would be greatly appreciated.

i had that same thing happen to me but it was right after i got it together after baggin it. i was gonna pour coolant in it and start it up for a test drive. kinda upsetting, but the fluid was comin from right where you explained. changed the water pump and it was fixed.

Consider putting on a new timing belt at the same time, as the old one needs to come off to get to the water pump. That's what was done on mine when the water pump started leaking (similar symptoms to yours).

could just be the gasket justin, wont' swear to it since i'm not there...pull the pump, and inspect the surfaces before you install the new one, they need to be squeeky clean because the gasket doesn't have much material or surface area to make the seal.....good luck boss!

and like cusser said...replace the belt because you're already there and it's better to be safe than sorry!!I know from personal experience!!

I wouldnt replace the belt if it has less than 15 gs and the water pump should be warranted if that is the problem rather than the gasket

well put the new pump on and it fixed my problem. timing belt only had about 15 thousand on it so i didnt change it again. i wasnt goin to put just the gasket on it cuz its such a bitch to get to so i sprung for the extra 40 and put a pump on it anyways. thanks for the help

Wise to replace the pump while you were in there, instead of just hoping it was the gasket. Your time is worth $$$, no matter what. Last night I bought two $16 wheels and about $6 in associated hardware at Ace Hardware for a backyard project, Home Depot didn't have anything that large, and buying the correct wheels will enable me to install them with just drilling two through-holes, and putting on the wheels with washers and two 1/2 inch wingnuts, so they'd be easily removeable. So that will save me at least an hour to fabricate something less usable, and be easier in the long run. So just a reminder to think it out first. Agree, in your case, no reason to purchase a new timing belt.
