i was changing my bypass hose and the upper part that the hose goes on just broke off the engine. what are my options? can it be welded back on or something?

Someone here will know exactly if that outlet is a bolt-on to the side of the engine or was part of the casting (I can't remember from the time I changed my bypass hose). If it's part of the block, maybe it can be tapped for pipe thread and a brass fitting with a barb used. Can it be welded or brazed - someone here should know...wait for responses...I remember on TV a show called "Shadetree Mechanic" where those guys always recommended cutting off old hoses with a blade so stuff like happened to you can be avoided....great show it was

i'm thinking i might get that "welding" stuff in a tube that hardens to like metal. i used it for my exhaust system leaks and it works well

That wouldn't be the path I'd take....can you post a good photo (you might need to remove battery for access).

so i got the stuff and it works great. i tested at spot on one of my lug nuts. i made a long thing of the putty and stuck it on teh lug nut without cleaning it or anything. then i come back in like 20 mins and its hard and wont come off. when i did get it off it took a lot to break it. and it works to 500 degrees so if my engine ever gets that hot i'll have a lot more to worry about than that "weld"

just use some duct tape... if you cant duct it f*ck it.... just kidding.... jb weld insn't the greatest solution... it may be a quick and easly soulution but its not going to last very long.... not really to sure on what other options you have that wont cost you a bit of money.... without seeing pictures of your problem.....

i keep on forgetting to take pics. but i went to the junkyard and looked at a mazda there. i have to take off the front part of the engine where the thermostat and timing belt is. its gonna be a bitch. but i got some high heat epoxy and i'm gonna try to glue it just for now to get around. it kinda fucks with my LA trip if i dont fix it by friday. i was thinking about going to a mechanic but i dont trust them and i dont want to spend the money. i can do it but its just a bitch cuz i dont have a lot of tools...
