My aftermarket tach ($30, installed last week) gets its feed directly from the coil negative side, a yellow wire on my '88 B2200 (carbed, Weber).

I doubt any tachometer works from the transmission; if so, one wouldn't have any tach reading at all if the clutch pedal was pushed down, isolating the transmission from the engine (I can push down the clutch pedal and roar my tachometer).

Most likely on most vehicles the tach signal is fed from the coil, a "modern" computer, or an engine position sensor.

hayanxpocho69 - OK, yours was originally auto transmission, is yours fuel-injected or carbed? Methinks maybe you might have knocked off a wire when you installed the pedal assembly for your "new" manual transmission.

the tach has nothing to do with the computer, but i also had a similar problem, so i just got an aftermarket tach and it works fine now, and its the yellow wire with the blue stripe on the coil
