noticed somethin

i just looked at this picture of my motor...

and noticed the spray on the firewall. what is back there, or was back there, that went bad and makes it spray like that?

wrong oil filler cap for one.with all the oil over the back 1/2 of the engine the small filter in the air cleaner is probably stopped up and oil is blowing out of the vent tube and being picked up by air from the fan and slung over the firewall.the valve cover gasket is also probably leaking and adding to the problem.get some kerosene and an old paint brush,get the engine bay warm(not hot),paint the engine and firewall with kerosene ,let it sit 10 minutes or so and wash off.U will be able to see the leaks better with a clean engine.cover dist.with a baggie and dont spray water directly on it.

or get yourself a few cans of brake cleaner and spray onto the firewall... it will clean the oil off and rinse it afterwards... dont let it sit... but it will clean it up pretty damn good so you can see where the leak is coming from... i had the same problem with my 90 after i first got it and thought it was my rear main (oil all over the entire firewall.... but it was just built up over time from the valve cover being loose.)

oh yeah, takin it to my buddies garage saturday hopefully to git the valve seals done and i'll be throwin in a new valve cover gasket after that.

try tightning your valve cover i looked at mine today and all the bolts were loose...lol

well i cleand it up a bit. the valve cover was loose and that lil filter is black.

i cleaned the filter with carb claeaner and my truck doesnt seem to smoke as much on start up
