Is the shifter rod itself different between the extended cab and regular cab models? My friend gave me his shift lever and I can't get into 2, 4, or reverse if the thing that bolts to the floor with the rubber boot on it is in there.

The shifter hole on the trans seems a little far back in the hole. It's really hard to get a socket on the rear two bolts. Is that normal?

Well from all of my tinkering with mazda trannys... All the shifters are the same. are you sure your bushing in the tranny is lined up?

is it in backwards that would limit travel

The little orangy bushing on the bottom of the shifter that actually goes into the gear selector? Yeah, that's lined up. The white one that goes on the ball in the middle of the shifter where it bolts to the trans? Yeah, that's lined up. It wouldn't bolt down otherwise.

you can have them together and it not be lined up properly. kind of like going in at an angle putting it in a small bind. best way is to put the tranny in neutral and try it a few times until it pops down.
