engine problem...... NEED HELP

so my 87 b2200 is shitting the bed.. it starts if you hold the throttle wide open. it will kinda stay running if you keep it wide open. it just started this. replaed cap, rotor, plug wires. i think the fuel pump may be going out, but it dies when you spray starter fluid or any thing over fuel just dripping.. pulled the plugs, and they are black as hell. its spits carbon buildup out exhaust. also pulled the valve cover and lifters and rockers are all good. im pretty sure it is fuel related, but i dont know.. PLEASE HELP. it is really pissing me off. ask questions if you need more info. i just have no clue.

Check the Precat, on the exhaust manifold, Sounds like its plugged, Unbolt it and start it up see if it runs..

As above pre-cat may be plugged.Truck is running way too rich so other things to check are: is it timed properly 6% BTDC, is the O2 sensor working and not clogged up,is the float level in the carb ok (there is a sight glass on the drivers side of the stock carb--is fuel level even with the etched line on level ground, is the air cleaner element clogged up,is the auto choke stuck in the closed position..Just a start on things to check.BJ

yeah i pulled the cleaner off and made sure the choke was open, and i havent checked the fuel level in the bowl.. but i will deff try taking the 02 out. and as soon as i can get to my shop i will pick up my timing light and check the timing.. yeah it is pretty fucked though.. it wont go above what sounds to be like 1k rpm's. also it WIIL NOT run unless it is wide open throttle..

when anything goes wrong in the fuel-air delivery system on these old trucks,the default system or "limp home" mode is full rich which sounds like what u have.After u check the easy stuff Tweaker can probably walk u thru a quick check of the electrics on ur carb to be sure they are ok.If it has been running rich for awhile,I am still bettin on a clogged pre-cat,however.BJ

My B2200 is pretty much doing the same thing , someone says Tweaker can maybe help
