I've got my truck up and running now but my tach (aftermarket) is reading goofy. There's a little black box bolted to the radiator core support with two wires coming out of it and between those two wires there's three connectors. What is this thing and how do I hook it up? I think it may be the issue.

For whatever reason the truck has a 626 distributor on it so this may be something that's 626 specific.

Got a pic of it?

This is where it bolts to the core support, just below the coil bracket.

Here's a close up of the thing and the wires coming out of it. They're yellow with a blue stripe and yellow with a green stripe.

The yellow one with a blue stripe has two connectors on it, one of each "sex"(one male one female), the yellow one with a green stripe only has one, female.

ya thats not right, the tach wire should be connected to the negitive side of the coil

what colors do u have on the tach itself?

The tach's connected 100% correctly, don't worry about that. The question was, what the hell is this part?

yellow wire with blue stripe is the pickup for the factory tach. Make sure your connections are clean, and tap that wire. That may be the igniter, IDK.

So that may be a filtering capacitor. Interesting. I'll try throwing that inline with the tach wire and see if that makes it happier.
