I'm finally getting to the point where its cleaning up the wires and little stuff for my engine swap. I was looking for a way to thin out the giant wire bundle on the drivers side so it would fit under the fender instead of across the motor. What wires are needed from there to get the 302 running, as well as headlights and power? All this wiring is really new to me and could use some help, thanks.

Buy a Painless Wiring harness and start over. The 302 only needs like 4 wires. Coil power, +12V, alternator, & starter. Add a couple more if you're using electronic gauge senders.

Is it carbed or EFI? I agree with what he said above and get a painless harness it would be much easier. If you dont want to spend the money on that you need to find an engine wiring diagram for the vehicle the engine came out of and start tracing and eliminating wires.

Its carbed of course, I hate this much wiring. So I should grab the B2200 wiring harness diagrams then and only have to find those few wires. And I'm staying away from any gauges really, I wouldn't know what I was looking at with the performance stuff anyways. Looks like I have my weekend planned out then.

I looked and looked and all I found was some stuff on EFI swaps, no carbed stuff. I've read that it's not necessary to have the harness from the vehicle the engine came from if it's carbed. Don't know how much this will help but here's a link to the EFI swap into a ranger, but I'll post it anyways.
