In houston we have emissions testing. Here is my question.

I passed spitting half the CO2, NOx, and H gas test but failed by double the standard for CO...... anything I can do for this?

I used some top engine cleaner... just hit 500 miles on the rebuilt motor so I will be doin an oil change soon. The only thing I can think is the stupid hose on top of the valve cover going to the air breather on top of the carb..... any other suggestions?

1987 B2000 carb, stock intake and exhaust.

I'm also going to have to get Texas emissions soon.

I was thinking of a timing light that has the dwell, tach and light such as this one:

Would that do the job?

Also, right now my B22 has the stock carb. Was thinking of doing the popular switch over to a Weber and Pacesetter header combination. I've seen/searched about this and know the emissions will most likely be cleaner than the stock setup (since it's old and probably running rich), but....will I have problems because it won't pass visually? Is there maybe some air filter setup that may 'appear' or hide everything enough to pass the visual tests?

Definitely not trying to bypass anything here with emissions (especially if it will run cleaner with the weber), but wondering how you get the weber setup to pass the visual test....

Thanks much.

If your emissions checks visually when you go through to do emissions, then yes, if they know better, they will fail you if you have the Weber, etc.!

If they do a visual to pass you after failing for a waiver, then you will be screwed! But if its a rebuilt engine, and you do a conversion, and put on a new cat, just take to an auto place with a smog analyzer and have them de-tune it until the numbers are below requirements to pass and then go down and get it put through...

IF you think its the PCV valve you can check it by seeing if the ball rattles inside. If you are in any doubt spray it with some carb cleaner. BTW, you should of had a new one on it anyways since the engine is rebuilt!

Weber runs richer than a stock setup and I know you would fail emissions if you didnt get it tuned first!

IF you really want to, you might try and put a few bottles of heet in the tank and take it for a highway drive but first do some hard stopping and going so you slosh the tank around mixing the heet in.

I put some Seafoam through my carb here recently to clean the carbon out but no change as of yet.... waiting another week do the first oil change then take it back to test again.
