I need some help... I've had this truck for about 2 weeks now as a second daily while I finish the swap in my Civic, Tonight Im driving home from work, and stop at the rest area. I start it up, back out my spot, and start driving, it stumbles then goes back to driving normal, I go about 50 yards and it just cuts off, I coast it into a spot. The thing will NOT restart, just cranks and cranks and not even a hint of starting, Heres all the things I checked, all fuses and relays, conections on coil and dist, shook the fuel filter and generally checked everything I could think of, Spent 45 mins trying to get it started and was about to call and get it towed, As I last attempt I checked all vacuum lines for kinks and wiggled everything one more time, and it still wouldnt start, I could smell fuel and if I held the gas it would turn over faster, but not even a real sputter from it, Im talking to my friend on the phone and he asks me to crank it some so he can hear it, and it sputters and starts to run, I give it some gas to clear it out and it starts right up and idles perfect! I drive it 20 more mins home without a problem. I am STUMPED, I dont know these Mazdas very well. Fuel filter looked fairly new, dist cap and rotor, plugs and wires were all done in the last year by previous owner, What should I look for in the am, I work tomorrow and have no transportation if I cant figure something out, Any ideas???

aint but 3 things make em run-fuel,spark and o2. if u can smell gas,its flooded.if spark,it usually works or doesnt.fuel and air depend on the crappy Nikki carb so I would suggest that as a starting place.check the sight glass on the front drivers side of the carb and be sure the gas level is on the etch mark on the glass.Take some carb cleaner and clean the linkage and the pivot points on the butterfly inside the carb.Change the fuel filter if it hasnt been changed in awhile, also the air cleaner element.make sure u dont have a missing, loose or cracked vacuum line .There is a small one on the drivers side of the carb that goes to the intake manifold that gets missed a lot.Keep us posted.BJ

Well like I said it drove home fine after it cooled down, I I havent found any broken lines and I got a new K&N for it tonight from work. I figured the coil could be bad when its hot, so I swapped out the coil, fuel filter, and cleaned the plugs tonight in the dark when I got home, Im doing seafoam treatment on it now, I just hope its not ignition module or any other sensors, they are expensive for these things. Plugs are fairly new NGKs still got the grease in the wire boots. It started up fine everytime so far today, I am kinda stumped. We'll see tomorrow, Im driving it to my 2nd job

Got any pics of your civic? I had a 92 4 door with a b20 I sold last year, and a 95 hacth with a built SOHC vtec, ANd now a 91 4 door, Thinikin about swapping a sohc vtec in it. cuz I can leave a non vtec valve cover and still pass visual at smog

I did seafoam last night, Did a good amount down in the carb and it cleaned ALOT out, Its running ALOT better, But still can find a def reason why it did its little stunt the other night, I got tools with me now and starting fluid to determine if its a fuel problem if it happens again

other thing to check are all ur grounds--battery to frame, coil to frame via that little resistor, cab to frame and block to firewall.sand the connectors good and reattach.sometimes those things will corrode and give u a fit.BJ
