f***ing truck wont start

i have a short some where i think when i turn the key on the dash lights come on and then as soon as i try and start it they turn off i the battery is good and the start is brand new what could it be?

i know it sounds stupid but get new or clean your battery terminals it sounds like thay are loose or corroted or just not tight

Alright oddly enough the same thing happened to me like 2 weeks ago, Battery shows voltage all fuses are good, Blinkers dont work and hazards flash super extremely fast (but they dont flash they just clikc fast) anyway it wa smy battery it had a shorted cell, lthough it showed voltage and everything it was no good, I replaced it and vualla

pull the shroud off from around the steering column... then use a meter and find out if you have power when you turn the key 1 click, then 2 clicks then see if you have power going out to the starter when you turn the key all the way.... if you need help figuring out which is which.... look on the end.... it says what each wire is for
bat - constant power
acc - accessory
ign 1- ignition
ign2 - second ignition
st- starter.................
that should let you know if your ignition switch is fried or not......

Definatly some good info in here fellas. I am currently having the same problem, I will definatly check back on this thread when I get the mazda back.

Yes, you need to check out your ignition switch electrical portion. Yes, they are one of the weaker areas as these trucks age. Yes, I've replaced mine, pretty straightforward after getting the steering housing off, just wish the wires from the underdash were a few inches longer....

amen on the longer wires! Ive had to do this in the past also, very straight foward just costly if you cant find a good used one! Only place that caries the part is the stealership! Good luck!
