I did a search and found all kinds of info on adjusting the valves on the b2000's, but nothing for the b2200's. So i'm in need of some help.

I haven't moved my truck since saturday, went out tonight to take it for a drive, it started and ticked real bad from the rear of the valve cover area (by the firewall). Once the engine warmed up the tick went away. While it was ticking the engine seemed to idle slower then normal and run alittle rougher. I can only assume that the valves are needing adjusted, but from what I read on here the b2200 are hydrolic lifters and should be selfadjusting? Or do I need to pull the valve cover and readjust them? Maybe there is another problem? I'm pretty familiar with adjusting the valves on the '89 Toyota 22RE engines (dad has one), is my 2200 basically the same proceedure?

You can't on a stock b2200 there all hydrolic and cant be adjusted. But there are things you can do the first thing is make sure you have the right oil filter. You can buy them with a little valve that will keep the oil from draining down when you shut the motor off. This will help keep the hydrolic lifters primed. The other is take the valve cover off and check for any lifters that are sticking and or not working right. and replace them which can cost some money. The last thing you can do is replace them with the manual lifters from a B2000 motor (86 to 87) you wont to keep your cam caps and just swap out the rocker arms and cam. The last is what I done to my 92.

1 suggestion is maybe a new or used good motor .. or swap ...

that is true to but the new motor might cost more then fixing his and a swap with a used one might start doing it not long after the swap.

Sounds like a top end rebuild might in store for my truck, or a b2000 valve train swap. I just came in from looking at some things, I checked the oil (too dark last night to look), it was a quart low. Started it up and no ticking to be heard. This makes me happy. Might have fixed the problem for $3.

Yes when I had my stock ones on they would tick when I was a little low on oil. I thought you had already checked the oil thats why I did not say something about it.

Last night when I discovered the tick, it was already getting dark. Already had a crappy day then this was the icing on the cake. I jumped to coclusions, should have kept cool and delt with it in the day light, and when I was in a better mood.

I'm just glad I don't have to tear into another engine. Thanks for the help.
