Hi! New here and need help. I have a 1987 B2000 and need to replace the front crank seal. How can I get the front crank bolt loose? Before pulling out the belt I tried to wedge a screwdrive through the cam sprocket but it wouldn't give. I then pulled the cam sprocket and belt hoping maybe the cam seal was bad but it's fine. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

Your lucky you asked! I found out the hard way on how to get it out...

Really, its simple! Take a breaker bar or whatever sort of ratchet you have that will go onto the crank bolt and will extend to the frame rail on the passenger side.

Crank the engine and the force of the engine and the leverage from the ratchet on the frame rail will break the crank bolt loose. Afterwards just unscrew it with your hand!

I was out of town when mine went bad, and not know how to get it off forced me to get it in the shop. The simplicity on how to remove it could have been the $150 difference for me!

BTW, WELCOME to the site!

HeX0rz thanks for the method. I would have never thought of doing it this way!

MazdaTweaker thanks for the details. I have an impact gun, any suggestion how to hold the crank still?

Thanks Tweaker. I was able to get crank bolt off using an impact gun. Thanks again for the help!

impact is the easiest way to get the crankbolt off. air tools are the best!!

old post but another way to do it just stick the rig in 5th gear and use a breaker bar. wont work for an auto though

I put mine in 5th, pulled the brake, and blocked the wheels,
If you have an auto I believe you can put it in drive and block the wheels and use the break to break it loose.
