Hi, I'm just bought a Mazda truck, its a 1987 b2600 4x4 its my first foreign truck, and has alot less power than I thought. im looking for a bigger engine to swap in, and found the fe3 swap from a kia sportage.
I have a few questions about the swap...
I have been doing some research, but there seems to be a lack of places to find it.

First, and most importantly, will this work with a 4wd truck?

What transmission can be used? The kia? or a mazda? I have an automatic, but I would like a standard. On a side note, can a 2wd transmission be used in a 4wd setup?

Is there a better source for any of this information? thanks for reading, hopefully Ill get some replies

If your looking for more power and a relatively simple swap, check out the Mitsubishi Starion motors. Fuel injected and turboed and they will bolt up to the trans already in your truck.

Ok, that is something I will look into... Is the starion transmission interchangeable with the truck? I want to swap to manual. the 4wd is important.

thanks

no tranny will be 100% direct swap. You will still need to hang all the brackets, pedals, master cylinder, and all that, and get the driveshaft redone.

Not 100% certain if maz to maz auto to 5spd will need a driveshaft length change, but I think it will.

Yah im pretty sure the lengths are different between the auto's and the manuals.

The 4x4 trans is married to the tcase, you are going to need a 5sp from another 2600 as well as the drive shaft. If you wanted to use a starion trans you'd have to find a divorce mount tcase, fab the mounts and some way to shift it, custom front and rear driveshafts, basically waaay too much work for no real benefit since the 2600 4x4 5sp /tcase is a great setup. good luck.
