correct me if im wrong but the rods are in the top end of the motor?? check your oil? these little motors start ticking when they are low on oil, also what kinda noise is it?

to replace the piston rod bearings, all you gotta do is pull the oilpan off, unbolt the rod caps, replace the bearings in the caps, and use a screwdriver to push on one side of the bearing on the rod till it slides where you can pull it out, then reverse the process.

you can do the bearings in frame with out pulling the motor. There are is a cross member bar you have to remove. Then you will have to turn the steering wheel all the way to the right or left (can't remember which). and you can turn the oil pan on an angle and it DOES come out, but it is REALLY tricky.

It will also be NEARLY IMPOSSIBLE to inspect your crankshaft, and if you have spun a bearing (which would explain the knock) you may have scored the crankshaft. if so it would need to be pulled and then turned. you would then need over sized bearings. To pull the crankshaft you have to pull the motor.

If you are going to do the bearings i recommend pulling the whole engine, i tried just doing the bearing once. I went around the block once and the bearing had spun on me again. The crank shaft had been scored so it just grabbed the new bearing and spun her around.

the cheapest thing is to do it right the first time.
