Ford 302 guys, I'd love to talk to ya

What all is involved in making a b5000? Im certain a 2000/2200 tranny would grenade behind one and I assume it doesn't bolt to the 2600 tranny/tcase. do you have to replace the whole drivetrain? I'm also curious about the weight distribution. Does anybody have any numbers about how much it weighs versus a 2.6 or 2.2?

I've decided to keep my b2k mostly stock due to its regular use as a driver but I'm still kicking around the idea of building up a 4x4 and I have a 302 in my Torino so I'm somewhat familiar with working on them.

I know a little. I had a 5.0 HO fuel injected in my 4x4 ranger. If you do a carb'd motor it would be a lot easier. I ran an AOD tranny to a BW1356 transfer case. That setup was huge under the truck. I had to set the motor off to the pass. side of the truck , clearance the drivers side, and shave a little off the t-case. In order to fit a 302 with 4x4 under a mazda I would do a C-4 tranny with an advanced adapters unit to a stock ranger tranny. Unless you want a 5speed than do the T-5. Anyway you go, you will be changing the entire drive train. I don't know of any adapters for a 5.0 to a mazda tranny, and I don't think it would hold up anyway. as awesome as that would be, I think it may be a little beyond my skill level, I'm good for the mostly plug and play mods but when it comes to serious moddin I'm a newb.

best way to do it is buy a 302/tranny together... carbed 5.0 out of a mustang... use its stock tranny... take the yoke from the mustang drive shaft and your stock drive shaft to a shop (of course measure for the new length) and have them build you a new shaft.... make new motor mounts and tranny mount and or crossmember... would also be easier to do a manual trans.....

the first post says " I'm still kicking around the idea of building up a 4x4" so he is going to need a t-case after the tranny. So a tranny out of a mustang will not work unless he changes out the end.
