if it isnt drying out,which is sounds like it probably is, the cable may not be plugged all the way into the cluster. I've had that case happen on mine when swapping to a tach cluster.
Mine does this when it's cold out I think it may need lubed up on the cluster I hate plugging the bastard back in though lol. I already had to lube up the blower for the damn heater it was squealing like a stuck pig.
