Hey, i poked around on the search feature for a little while, and came up with nothing... so i thought i'd ask
What's the strongest axle offered in a ranger? was a 9" offered? if so what year/model and what gear ratio?
i'm looking to pick up a 9" ford axle for my wife's project Mazda b2200. we're going to put a 5.0 possibly bored with some performance goodies under the hood and want a strong axle to lay down rubber.
thanks

the ford 9" wasn't offered in the 83+ rangers the strongest axle offered is an 8.8.

Check out this website

They make kits to beef up the ford 8.8 to 9" axles and bearings. It sounds just what your looking for

if your looking for a beefy rear axle. the 8.8 is REALLY stout and there are TONS of aftermarket stuff for them, i would stay away from the 90-94 8.8 tho as they have the small axle bearings and u cant use the disc brakes off the explorer on them w/ out chaning the bearing housing...95-07 8.8s are the best, 4wds usually having 31 spline trac loc axles with either a 3.73 or 4.10 gear ratio BUT they are wider then the earlier axles(only found in 4.0 rangers FYI)

What year Mazda is it that youre wanting to do this on?? Personally if I were going to do a 5.0 swap I wouldnt put an offset rearend under it. Not that it really matters, but it does make things a little tighter to work with rather than a centered differential. I seen a truck just yesterday at a small Ford show that had a shortened 9" rearend under it with a 351 (5.4). It was bada$$ to say the least, but a lot of time and money went into it. Dynos at 727 to the rear tires, but there isnt enough weight to hook up so youll wanna keep that in mind also even with a 302. Having the power is cool yet you still want your wife in a safe ride.

her mazda is an 89 standard cab short bed. what rearend would you put under it, that's a banjo style such as a 9" is?
