thats what i thought too, but why is it at the back of the valve cover and have spots for three wires when only one wire goes past that point?

it looks like one the one picture there is a black clip in the front there ,and on another one its missing ,is it possible after all the years they vibrated out ?because i looked at my friends and he has lil bolts in there with black clips just like the one close to the front of your vavle cover, and the rear one he has a clip joining both of the rear holes like a hose would get mounted in it ,"throttle cable maybe idk he dont have anything in it either

yes i know its dirty, probably hasn't been cleaned its entire 165k miles.... to answer your questions.... the line holder on top of the timing chain cover is for the vaccume line going to the distributor (timing advance) the other 2 only mazda makers know why... the line holder is for #4 plug wire (dunno why it has 3 spots for wires) 2 of them have nothing in them either and last but not least the three holes you pointed out are boltless on mine as well, sorry for the shit quality pictures it was from a phone....
