anything i should keep in mind replacing a gas tank?

'89 b2200 ext cab
fuel pump was replaced about a month ago so hopefully it comes out ok

i gotta use up all the gas in there to make it lighter if course.

i also want to get it coated with a rust proofing, will the spray can undercoat stuff suffice? just going to mask off the openings and spray around the whole thing most likely.

i have 3 jacks, so i was going to try to use 1 or 2 with a piece of wood to steady lowering the current one down so i don't need to worry about the weight so much.. should be light anyways but just to be safe

what else am i looking at?

thanks,
jesse

if you spray the rubber undercoating on the tank be prepared to get it on your hands. that stuff doesnt really ever dry. if youre looking for some good dry protection try the spray in bedliner in a can. its tuff and drys hard.

aha, yeah bedliner spray would be better... i know about getting the undercoating on my hands
i have a ton of latex gloves anyway... but yeah i'll grab something proper

i forgot the tank has a drain plug, however i don't want to waste gas either so i'm going to use what i can until it gets clogged up again

i will attempt to loosen the box but it's quite rusty and i'd hope not to break anything underneath..

gotta call today to get the tank.. lol

Stop do not use under coating. Use POR 15 for your tank I used it on CID's gas tank and this stufff works alot better. Here are a few pics of the tank before and after.

Here it is in the truck fully painted in POR 15

I will tell you that undercoating will not take the abuse that POR15 will take and this stuff will not come off it you get gas on it.
