Anyone know if an automatic driveshaft is the same as a 5 speed? Both trucks are standard cabs.

No, I did a swap from an auto to a 5 speed and the auto is shorter. You will have to find a 5 speed drive shaft. The automatic will be a one piece and the 5 speed is a two piece. Also the u-joints aren't replaceable. You have to find a drive shaft specialist to have them remove it for you and have them put in a replaceable u-joint. I hope that helps

i have an extra 5 speed drive shaft. You can have just pick up shipping. I'll see what shipping would be round and about!

so you all tell me this
I Took a 2.2 /auto out of a 87 2200 extended cab
i took out a 2.0/5 speed of a 86 b2000 standered cab
put the 2.0 and the 5 speed into my 87 extended cab and the drive line was the same all i had to do was change the tranny mounts, peddle cluster and slave and misc but the drive line was the exzact same so i dont know if you are doing something wrong but mine was perfect but then again i went from standered cab to extended cab

There is a difference in drive shaft length between a extended cab and a standard cab. I'm glad you got it to work. But make sure that the u-joints are good and check the you have a 1/2" of distance between the spline of the drive shaft and the tranny. This is for your clearance when you rear diff goes up and down. If it's to close to the tranny then you are going to hit and screw things up. Just a warning.
