1984 B2000(built in late '83). So, I'm in the process of replacing my clutch and I noticed that my input shaft has about 2mm of play in it. Before I took the trans out I noticed a whining/whirring noise from there. The noise occurred in neutral while at a stop with the clutch engaged(pedal out) but not with it disengaged. I can't recall whether it makes the noise while rolling in neutral. My Haynes manual doesn't say anything about it( It tells me that trans repair is beyond the home mechanic, which I know of course is not true). Are there any better manuals than Haynes? I don't know anything about taking a trans apart, but I think I could probably do it with some good instructions. So I'm wondering if anybody has some input as to whether or not my input shaft bearing needs to be replaced and if so could they point me towards some good instructions. And also, there was alot of oil in my bellhousing, and my rear main seal looks to be clean, so maybe it's coming from the input shaft seal? Thanks alot everybody.

Hey, thanks for responding guys. Sorry it's taken me so long to reply. I don't get on the internet too much. Anyway, I just ended up putting the trans back in without messing with the bearing. It seems to be alright for the time being. I'll probably get to it in the future though. Good luck with your trucks guys. Thanks.
