What is the ideal collant temperature range? My gauge goes right above half way almost 3/4 way. Is that to high?I just rebuilt my motor and just want to make sure I moniter the temp correctly because I know these motors always blow gaskets at the slightest overheating. Would It be ok to run a thermostat that opens at 160 instead of 190?

mine only goes up a quarter of the way but with these trucks being so old who can say there gauge is accurate might shouls get an aftermarket gauge to get a more accurate reading

Yeah, I think I'm gonna get me an aftermarket gauge. What is the ideal degrees it should be?

I would guess 195...thats what my old nissan ran at and it was a 93 and my 94 chev ran at 195 also and it was a V8...the nissan was obviously a 4 banger
oh yea...and I doing the aftermarkets and a custom gauge pod

Hey I just rebuilt mine too last month and had a 160 thermostat and the thing always ran below the coldest line. So i put the 195 in and now it goes to 3/4 of the way and then drops almost all the way down (probably when the thermostat opens). 160 is too cold and 195 just is freaking me out (even though 192 is factory) so I'm going to get me a 180.

Mine also runs almost near the bottom....but I am on a manual fan switch...so when I see it heat up I turn the fan on and basically leave it on all day.

just out of curiousity, how do you purge the air out of the heater core? Just turning it on and letting it run for a minute and refilling the radiator?

My bad, Its an 89 b2200. I dont have or know anyone with an infrared temp thingy so I think I'll just put in a temp gauge so I can get a more acurate reading. everything is all brand new except the fan clutch. I drove it about 30 miles last night with no issues. Just want to moniter it so I dont get any overheating issues in the future.
