here's a really easy, stupid question...

every time I look up parts for my 92 B22 I get the option to choose FI or not...

how do i know?

mine doesn't have the round air cleaner, it's got the box over behind the drivers headlight
if that helps

pics would make it easier....any pic....but it sounds like your injected.

here is a easier way to tell

You say you dont have a round air cleaner which would be located on the passenger of the motor.....should be a large black piece (unless it was painted, but you would still know)....if instead there is a large piece of aluminum there thats pointing to the drivers side, followed by a intake tube heading for the drivers light area (as you say it does) then your injected..

however...even a car model will have the intake port in the direction of the drivers area

does that help?

if you injected...there will be a MAF (mass airflow sensor with a arrow pointing in the direction of airflow in the intake tube.

well it's not like one i've seen before.. not like my 87 with the round metal air cleaner assembly with the annoying egr tubes...

it's got a map over by the air clear box ... looks like the air cleaner is square

i'm guessing injected..

that's cool... i think

so how do i go about getting it to run leaner.. it's currently running really rich
korrupt1   +1y
hmmmm...FI SHOULD lean itsekf out...btu then again I was running super rich too...I started with the basics, new plugs, wires, air filter( i went to a open element...which is currently being made into a CAI...details to come but pretty easy really)

I had a huge rip in my original intake tube so that got replaced, checked for any and all leaks within my hoses and gaskets and repaired...and have gained a ton of mileage too....I was getting about 200 a tank so pretty lousy in the economy dept...now I consistently get about 270-80 per 10.5 gallons...I have managed to squeeze 300 out but I was riding pretty thin on fuel I believe (my gauge is slightly messed up)

Thats where I would start....your timing is more than likely dead on so i wouldnt worry too much about that....but you have excess air getting in somewhere...so your computer is TRYING to compensate by dumping excess fuel in to make up for the defiency...there is a lil black box looking thingy (dont know what it is or what it does...but mine has it...for what ever it does...I had a small leak there...located center rear toward firewall of the truck....still no idear what it really does...but I know I had a leak there and misc hoses had over the years rotted up pretty good....I would suggest getting you a bunch of hosing (different sizes and about 4ft of each...worked for me in my case) replace anything that even looks crappy (stay away from the one from the brake booster to hard line on the firewall!! check valve in there and your brakes..will work but they go nuts from time to time...just found that out myself! Thank you mikey and toddzda for pointing that out, LOL!)

I would really closely inspect you intake tube, maybe just replace it with a cheapo one from pep boys or autozone or oreillys (about $20 for the flexible one which is what i got going right now...working great!)...like I said...mine had a HUGE rip in it...almost 3/4 of the way thru so it was ready to fall apart...and your MAF...meh...dunno if that having a issue yet...but couldnt hurt to clean it...just be careful...dont wanna rip the lil screen inside....I used a soft bristled toothbrush and that worked pretty good...time consuming but worth it in the end

beautiful info... thanks!!!

looks like i've got a bunch of upkeep to do this weekend to start with. i also got a new fel-pro valve cover gasket to install as mine seems to be seeping a fair amount. probably an old dried up cork one in there right now. new air filter and pcv valve. i think i might bring home a few cans of air intake cleaner .. maybe a case lol..

thanks

seafoam...thats the best...works awesome too....really cleaned out my entire motor...and 1 can did 3 things...oil, intake and fuel system.....1/2 can in the intakes, shut it down and let sit for about 30 mins....fire it up...it WILL SMOKE....ALLLLOOOOOT! more than likely. 1/4 can in the oil, be ready to change oil and valve cover gasket and PCV which you say you gonna do anyways so perfect time...1/4 in the fuel tank and let it do its thing....and motor be all cleaned up inside.

the rest is just maintainance that gets forgotton about thru the years or people dont wanna spend the 5 bux on...sad huh?

keep us posted!
