swap in a 2.3l ford???

I am getting hard of having cyl. head problems . don't really wanna do any crazy swaps this is just my beater pick up its an 87 b2000. My brother has an 1996 ford ranger with a 2.3l 4 cyl. and a manual transmission. I was thinking about getting it from him b/c the body is shot, and swaping that motor into my truck. I was curious if anyone had tried with that motor or not. I know i will do some wiring and piping maybe alittle fab work but i think it could work. Just curious if its been tried before thanx.

I have not heard of any one doing this, but I did think about doing a Ranger or Mazda 4.0 v6 when I first bought my truck. My thoughts on the wiring was to replace pretty much all of it with the v6 stuff, like all of it to the gauge cluster and just rewire the whole truck while I was at it. It's a lot of work but the wiring is getting a little old on mine.

If your confident with the wiring go for it! Do something different!!

I was just gonna swap over what i needed to get it running, not to worried about wiring stuff its just tedius and time comsuming. I am a tech for a Volkswagen dealership here so i am acustom to wiring work. lol I was more curious about if it would fit with minimal effort and cost. like the transmission and driveshaft fitting.

It cant be that hard it just a 4 banger and that's whats already there. Just me thinking but motor mounts, trans mount., and yeah a custom drive shaft. There both hydraulic clutches so that shouldn't give to much hassle. You got the wiring down and that the hardest thing I've run across with a motor swap. You may need a different fuel pump depending on if you have fi or carb on your mazda now.

I just don't see it poseing that big of a problem unless you don't have the time, tools or like me the money
