did some info on the FE3 and could not determine if the engine was non-interference or interference? I won't be at the shop for two days so i can't use the all data.

Could any of you oddball guys enlighten me? Interference or non? It listed the mazda engine on Wikipedia as being a non interference engine.

reason i'm asking, someone wants to give me a 97 kia sportage w/ a broken timing belt. Would be great if this was a non-interference and all the valves/pistons are in one piece All i have to do is go pick it up!

thanks a bunch!! i could be starting my FE3 swap soon! -=D

i looked into the fe3 swap a while back... looks like it would be a fun swap... what i was reading was on putting it in a miata and pushing 8psi on a turbo getting 250rwhp daily reliability. post some pix if you do it. would be sweet to see!

thanks dude! I will def take lots of picks and keep detailed data on what/how i do things. like they say, pictures speak a thousand words -=) not sure what condition the engine is in so i was planning on a full rebuild since i'll have it out anyway.. esp if i get the donor kia for free!

the motor is a interference motor.

from doing more research on FE3 it seems the DOHC is non-interference as the SOHC is interference. I'm still not getting concrete answers online. seems others are having as hard a time finding out what's up as I am. I guess the real way is to take the head off for an inspection. would really suck if the piston is jacked.. bent valves i can deal with. i'm still debating if i should take the drive up north to pick this thing up.

if your doing a full rebuild anyways it shouldnt matter if it has a jacked up piston or not. throw a new one in there while your in there if it is.

the dohc head is sitting on my computer desk. the dohc fe3 is an interference motor. the sohc kia motor is the same as the b2000 trucks and is a noninterence motor. the sohc kia's were in the early 95 models.

sweet, thanks for clearing that up!

i dont remember if the fe3 is non-interference engine, but my point is
that the kia engine isent a real mazda fe3 engine its a diferent internals in the engine, not so solid i heard, if you gonna tune it,

the real thing 10-1 compratio 213hk on the wheels on 0.5 bar, now with a new turbo, and 1 bar of boost
and working great, until i was on the track and the rad fan, stopped working
