so, i have a 89 b2200 with the 2.2 in it. it has 89,000 miles on it. The engine heat gauge or whatever it is by the speedometer has never went above 1/4 of the way up. Until today. Yesterday my truck was at a local mechanic's shop where i have gotten all the engine work done on my truck in the past. Yesterday they put my weber 32/36 DGEV on, and a new valve cover gasket it. i drove the truck home afterwards and that was it last night. So today i am coming home from work and decide to go to a body shop to get an estimate for all the body work for my truck. About halfway there i smell something burning, and then notice that my heat gauge has shot up to almost the top. So i stop and let the truck sit for about 30 minutes, then drive it home. I get home and pop the hood and steam greets me in the face. So, any ideas? SInce its never done this until i got the carb put on.

well do u smell anitfreeze? well alot of people have blown a headgasket from few things. i am thinkin it might be the hose coming off the metal pipe in the back of the head going to the heater core. also there another smaller hose coming off it going under the intake main. check that hose. there like small hoses. 1 end of it comes off the metal pipe and goes into the themrasat housing. check all those hoses first to be sure u not losing fluid. if the engine is hot it will hit the block and make steam and not leave a fluid on the ground...hope that helps. if that not the problem then run the truck for few mins and peak under the hood and see or smell ur way to the problem.

well i just went and checking the water in my radiator, and there wasn't very much. so i started pouring more in. and i discovered that the more i put in, the more pour out from the underside of the engine, right above the oil pan.

which side of the engine is it pouring out of? if it the passenger side then it sound like that hose. it right above the oil filter. just crawl under with a flash light and u should be able to see those hoses after u removed the metal shield plate to help see better.

well i just got off the phone with my grandpa. he thinks its either a freeze plug, or a blown head gasket. so idk. im not gonna look at it anymore for a little bit. its frustrating me right now.

Eh it sucks man but dont get frustrated yet. do that after u found the problem. IF u want u can pm me ur number and i will guide u over the phone to where to look. There isnt much to these motors so it should be able to find the problem

thanks for the help toddzda. it was a heater hose. its like directly under the carb. its got a nice rip in it and its just letting water pour out. a family friend is a mechanic and he is gonna come over later to make sure thats all it is, is the one hose. then hopefully i will be able to get the hose and put it on by tomorrow. thanks again for the help.

That good to hear u found the problem. yea it only like a 5 dollar hose. there are couple of small hoses like it. if that one has ripped already then the other ones are on there way too. to be on the safe side i would replace all those small hoses and 2 heater hoses.

If i am correct there should be a hose coming off the metal pipe in the back going into another metal pipe, the next hoses goes to the oil heater then anthoer hose comes off the oil heater to the bottom of the intake and the last one is coming off the end of the metal line going into the thermasat housing. those 4 hoses should get replaced if one of them has bursted.
