so today on the way home from work the a/c wasn't cooling off, granted it's low 90s here, but it wasn't cooling off at all. so I finally decided to roll down the windows to get some fresh air to cool off. It was off for 5-10 minutes then I turned it back on and it was blowing cold again so I was able to roll the windows up and it was fine the rest of the way home. I had to make 1 stop before getting home so it was shutoff then restarted and still blowing cold. any ideas or are there too many different things it could be?

I've only had the truck a few months
it has 120k on it

I've noticed with mine if i don't click the a/c button before turning it on my compressor don't turn on maybe that was the problem. but if i turn the a/c switch then hit the speed selector it kicks on.

most old a/c system designs take a few minutes before they start getting cold. most do not blow cold right off the bat. especially if there is an air pocket in the system.

It's hard to tell you anything about sealed refrigeration system without knowing what pressure gauges reveal.

Is your system still running on R-12?

Maybe the expansion valve is sticking.

Does your receiver / drier have a window in it that you can look into?

should be a sight glass passenger side front near the battery. Might be covered in dirt I didn't know mine existed lol.

still working fine all day today

I assume it's still on r12 but don't know. any way to know for sure?
I can look into the clear window (no dirt covering mine). what am I looking for?

With the system running at full blast, you should see only occasional bubbles in the sight glass if you are running R-12.

R-134a systems will show fogginess, and if your systems has been converted, you should have clip on connectors instead of screw fittings on the lines
