When I get home for good I have to options that keep running through my head. I am going to do a ground up rebuild of my 83 with a full tube chassis and many many other good stuff! The only thing that I can't decide on is if I want to drop a 4.3 in her or a 2.2L Diesel out of an 84 B2200. In the local junkyard there is an 84 with a complete diesel sitting in her and I have been eyeballing her for about 2 years and I am going home in December and I could go pick up the whole damn truck. I just can't decide on what swap I want to do. What do you guys think? I keep thinking about the fact that there aren't very many minitruck diesels running around and the fact that I can convert her over to run on vegetable oil. Tell me what you guys think.

Personally, I would go with the bio-diesel idea for more than one reason.

When, not if, the fuel supply from the Strait of Hormuz gets disrupted, you are going to be able to get fuel for a pickup truck.

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Strait of Hormuz (Arabic: ???? ????? - Mad?q Hurmuz,Persian: ???? ???? - Tangeh-ye Hormoz) is a narrow, strategically important waterway between the Gulf of Oman in the southeast and the Persian Gulf. On the north coast is Iran and on the south coast is the United Arab Emirates and Musandam, an exclave of Oman.

The strait at its narrowest is 54 kilometres (29 nmi) wide.[1] It is the only sea passage to the open ocean for large areas of the petroleum-exporting Persian Gulf. According to the U.S. Energy Information Administration, an average of about 15 tankers carrying 16.5 to 17 million barrels of crude oil normally pass through the strait every day, making it one of the world's most strategically important choke points. This represents 40% of the world's seaborne oil shipments, and 20% of all world shipments.[2]

Buy the '84 and convert it, and leave your own truck alone.

Ok Ryan, just my .02 - you could do the 4.3 and have a kick ass ride that can fry tires for blocks and probably (most likely) get you in trouble with the po po. OR do something that is creative, unique, and possibly a one of a kind.

Go for the dielsel!!

And believe me - there is nothing wrong with rollin "Slow and Low"

hahaha nice replies guys, i wanted to go with the 4.3 for the pwer to weight ratio that i know i can get out of her, but i love the idea of a bagged and bodied mini with a diesel that runs on oil, but i think i may still be able to get a little power out of that diesel. i think i may go pick that truck up in december when i go home.

one_low_22 - anderson salvage is right up the road from me but that is not the one i am looking at, hell, i thought all they carried was new stuff. i am looking at one at pick and pull. i may go pick it up in december if they still have it there.

thanks for the help, i think i am going to go with the diesel, sorry todd. haha

IF your going to do a motor swap at least a V8 or diesel for sure man, don't waste your time on a v6.
