okay guys i have a stupid question, i have a 93 2600i and the belt squeals on start up some times and more so when the 380s are running, does it do this cause the belt is too tight? or too loose?

probably loose nate. may need to tighten up the alt. belt. also ceck your power steering pump. everyonce in awhile my bolt that held the pulley would come loose and squeal.

anyone else have input?

Belt will squeal if it's lose or way to tight. or even wet. and depending on how long and loud it is could be a bearing.

MY daily. alt bearing does it everyonce in awhile.

It's pretty hard to get the belt way too tight on these trucks. Just check the tension on the alternator by loosening the bolt and try to snug up the alternator and tighten it again.

Your belt may also be worn out. I know on my B4000 my belt would squeal at idle all the time and I replaced the belt and the squealing stopped.

i just put this belt on last summer and have maybe driven 5 or 6k on it, so it shouldnt be worn out yet..... i am gonna try to tighten it up tomorrow and see if it still makes that noise.

if it's squealing just under load then it's probably just a little loose. Use a pry bar to push the alternator as tight as you can get it and tighten up the bolt while keeping pressure on the alt with the pry bar.

okay I'm going to throw this out there, you say it's a 93 2600i. If it is like my son's then it has like a little adjustment bolt you turn to tighten it. You have to loosen the a bolt that keeps it tight, then turn the little adjuster bolt. Of course you probably know that since you have already changed the belt but I thought I'd mention it, I'd hate to see you trying to pry on your alternator.
