i highly recommend that you pull the motor to do your work. if not, however, you can take the bolt out of the gear on the and pull it off with your hand. be sure to keep all timing marks in line and do not move them. have it at TDC on the number 1 piston before taking things apart. when you put it back together you will have to push the tensioner in and hold it in place. put the gear in the chain and then put it back onto the shaft. works good with a third hand. be careful not to Fuk up the gasket when putting the head and timing cover back together. hope this helps. if any more info is needed
