Ok here is my question? How hard would it be to change a 5 speed tranny for an automatic in my 83 B2000??? Normally I wouldn't, I love 5 speeds so much better but seeing as I am a cancer survivor as well as a amputee(Left leg) a 5 speed isn't really practical! I had mocked up a "Ghetto" clutch handle to use but its a pain in the a$$ and while I'm using the stock motor I might as well make it as easy on myself as possible! Thanks ahead of time for the help guys!

I am not familiar wit the pre-87 trucks, but if the bell housing is the same as later years then it should be an easy swap. Good luck and keep bumping this until some one knows. -Ed

Just checked and it looks like Mazda offered it in the 83 model as a 3 speed auto. If you find one I would guess that it would bolt up to a new fly wheel and should just have to eliminate the clutch pedal. Maybe if you find one you should try and snag the pedal set too. Again, good luck.

Thanks for the help! I have located a couple of automatic tranny's so now I just have to go pick it up!

Might also consider looking for a radiator out of an automatic truck or look into an aftermarket tranny cooler. If you can find the fittings that connect the tranny cooler lines to the tranny you can probably custom bend new lines without having to find stock ones.

The torque converter for the auto trans bolts to what is called a flex plate and not to a normal flywheel to you will have to find one of those for your motor as well.

As for actually bolting in the tranny that part should be pretty straight forward unless the tranny cross member is different between the two trannys.

Not sure on the drive shaft if they are the same between the 2 trannys. Sometimes the auto tranny is a little longer and requires a shorter drive shaft but I do not know personally for this install.

Good luck with the swap, hope things work out easier than I may have made it seem.
