Recently the engine in my B2000 (86) well... its not functioning anymore.

I need to replace the engine or recondition it..

I was considering going with a rotary. Most likely a 12a

Was wondering if anyone knew what the fuel consumption was like compared to the original 2l engine.

Also, any ideas for other engine swaps.. throw them out there.

yours is a 2.0 motor you can put a 2.2 in it and not have to do anything.. or you can go bigger and put whatever you want in it but as you said you didn't know much so id say start by looking in to finding a 2.0 or 2.2 to put in it to get you going again

Oh Yeah Bro! Do it! I have a 12a in my Mazda and man what a power difference. The fuel economy goes ion the toilet, but if you don't drive it all over the place its not bad. I drive mine about 5-10 miles a day and get about 2 weeks out of a tank of gas. Now you are probably saying that's a huge difference, but I also have a Larger intake and 40mm DCOE Weber on mine. The other thing is I almost never have mine warmed up so fuel economy is at its worst. I do have to change my plugs fairly often because of that too. You can leave the stock carb on it if you want to, but then all the emission crap stays on too. Let me know if you have any ???? and check out all the room in my engine bay on my thread. -Ed

Well, was originally just going to get a 2.2 or something, but i live in the country in australia... like 50k people where i live. Its just as hard to find the same motor as it is to find a rotary. Similar price to.

Currently i only get a week out of a tank simply cause i generally accelerate to the floor.

Have you ever had any problems with your rotary?

I have not had any problems other than the guy I briefly traded trucks with managed to destroy the transmission. If you like to keep your foot in it then a rotary is great too. They have no true red line. The gears limit your engine not the other way around. I have a 1986 transmission on a 1985 12a and the trucks stock rear end. I wish I could afford to re-gear my differential, but not for now. If I could this baby would kick ANY other minitruck's @$$ in my area for sure. If you can find a 13B for your with a harness and computer that would be even better. I wish I would have had the fuel precision of fuel injection. Either one would be fun though.
