jus woke up and started car to go to work.... no cranking just a click noise and starter(brand new) started smoking(smells like burning paper).. checked all wires n nothings wrong but one of the bolts that hold the starter in was loose(not the one holding the ground) tried jumping and no crank...negative terminal on battery really hot...?

sounds like a bad ground. make sure all your terminals are clean, also clean the battery post. and the contact surface of the ground on the block and at the fender well.

If you have access to a voltmeter or multimeter verify that your battery has at least 12v, if it's lower then that even jumping can be unsuccessful, also like Andrew said clean battery post is a must.

same thing happened to my friends just cleaned up the terminals and the connectors and it worked fine
