Hi all, 1st let me apologize bc I'm sure this has been beaten to death but here goes:

Can I use a jdm fe3n motor for a swap?
Is it a direct bolt in?
If so, what about the intake manifold and dist?
What if no computer is supplied? Can I use a painless performance type of deal? How about 1 from a kia?

I'm sorry about the bombardment of ?s but any advice/links would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance for your help guys.....

Yes you can use a jdm fe3 for swap and it is a direct bolt in. You'll need an intake manifold from an fe3. If there is no computer supplied you use a kia computer or I have also read that you can use an f2t computer with some modifications, not sure whats involved with that though. Another option is to use a megasquirt to control the engine. Check out the fe-dohc forum over at

hey i'm actually in the process of doing the same swap! you'll need a intake manifold from a sportage (95-01) cause the jdm fe3 is a horizontally opposed engine like most front wheel drive cars, meaning that if you were to use the origonal one it would be pointing toward the fire wall down side is that you lose the duel intake runners if you use the kia one. like elbine said you it is a direct bolt in though. the jdm is nice cause of the higher compression but the same engine is offered in the sportage with a lower compression or 9.2 to 1 which is better for a custom turbo setup you can use an F2T computer BUT you'll have to adjust the fuel pressure down cause of the lack of boost. i'd say get an F2 from a first gen mx6/626/ford probe. or even better from the sportage. then you wont have to change any of the wiring.
