Looks like a condenser to me, normally they are situated on the side of the dizzy itself.
If it is the condenser it works like a capacitor in a car stereo, holds a bit of a charge for when it's needed.
Normally you would replace them whenever you do the points and plugs, also just so you know coils are oil filled and don't usually like being heated up which is why it's unusual to see one mounted to the block like yours.
I'd check that too, just to make sure it's not just a dead coil.

cheers dev. its a brand new coil. Thought the old one might be the problem. but i'll mount it somewhere else. and yea i have a condensor up next to the dizzy, a little silver one.

but not sure wat this is, It has a wire that goes from the coil, into it, out of it and up to the points

anyone else???

Just a silly question but do you have power going to your coil?

it was a noise deadner for the radio, not sure if it was makeing my ute run like shit or not but i ran some new wire and by passed it. ute runs mint now

That is the condensor. And if you take it out of the circuit entirely, you will burn up your points, because it is designed to buffer current.

If it has gone bad, it shorts internally, so the coil doesn't get charged properly.

The other thing you think is the condensor is more likely the RF capacitor. It's there to cut down on radio interference (hash noise)

this one here is the condensor

sorry bout the crap picture. I change this everytime i change my points

Hey man you should fully change to electronic ignition, my ute already had it done when I got it so I don't know what it is out of but I remember doing my old RX and it was a 5 minute job that saves so much hassle in the long run.
Next time you see me anywhere just remind me and I'll pop the bonnet so you can get all the numbers off it you need, I'm pretty sure it's from a later model 929 or 626 but a quick trip to pick a part could be all that's needed.

mint cheers dev. See ya at the next minitruck monday?

andrew / h8hyts has one in his car. brand new cost him $280 i think. I'm a poor student so pick a part would be mint lol
