Hey All from the land down under,

recently picked up a 91 dually b2600, but have noticed that the gear shifter is quite sloppy and loose. Any suggestions on what might be the cause? simply wear on the shaft or something more sinister?

Its been a while since i have had a floor shifter, the 84 isuzu / rodeo i have is column shift,so not sure how tight these things should be.

Cheers and heres a pic of work in progress

First welcome to the site! Can you make a thread showing your crew cab? We don't get to see many if any at all in the states

Just to clarify it is a manual transmission right? If it is it should be semi loose. You should be able to freely move it left to right in neutral.

if you pull back the boot you will find that the shifter is just bolted right in to the top of the tranny with 3 or 4 bolts. then there is a little bushing on the end of the shifter that can possibly where out.

no probs on the build thread, yes its a manual, and i imagine a bit if left right in neutral. but i have more left right and a bit of sidewards in 1st.

Best guess is the bushing is wrecked, chassis has about 400K km's on it, no idea how many the gear box has.

is it a standard replacement item? or will it be a bitch to find?

Cheers

Got my parts on ebay from atkins rotary:

vi-content

$36 shipped, where you're at may be more.

another place to find parts:

install 1:

note: everything in there is fine except adding gear oil. you can add a capful to where the bottom of the shifter sits in. do not, however as most installs said, fill to above the little box. around the box is open to transmission, you need to above fill plug, not 98% full transmission.
and yes, you can get the lower plastic ring bushing out without breaking it if its still there. (so you dont have to fish it out from transmission drain plug...) gently pry up the front end with a flathead, so it tilts up and around the pin on the back side. be gentle, and it can come off in one piece

install 2:

this one helped me figure out how the hell to get the top bushing off the shifter...
I would recommend getting a new inner shift boot. if yours isnt already torn to shit, you will tear it to shit trying to get it off the shifter

This site has them, I think #13 for inner

option 2 for boot(not sure if they fit, email them to make sure):

bolts that hold inner shifter boot in are m6x1 and can be found at ACE hardware if youre missing any
