I did the same thing with a weber carb and header, but before i bolted the carb on i ported the crap out of the plenium where the carb sits to get a large oval shaped hole instead of a small opening now i have loads of torque pulling hills in 5th no problem. can fly threw gears up to 5th no problem barly any bogg motor runs hard in the bottom end, top end not so much good power up to about 4500 rpm but i like how it drives. Might throw a cam in it to give it a good rough idle.

Definitely buy the 2.0 pistons if you are buying pistons.

Another big increase for me was getting a camshaft reground for more lift and duration - that and a header is going to be better than just getting a weber carb.

How much more power you get out of that cam? About how much did it cost you?

The cam can be quite dramatic, it can allow the motor to rev up and make more mid and top end power which is completely missing in these motors.

It has been a few years, but I remember it was about $2-300.

Bad ass! I strongly agree with your reasoning stock cam is not a good contender for good power in the higher rpms.
