i had another thread going about my fuel pump problem in my bagged ranger. i've come to the conclusion though that the problem is the pump getting really hot and overheating. after about 5 minutes (if that long) the pump is too hot to touch and starts quietening down and then the truck sputters out from lack of fuel. so anyone have any ideas what could cause it to be overheating? we used the same wiring we had on the last fuel pump setup.

i dont have any pics of it right now. but i can give a basic explanation.the fuel cell and pump are at the back of my bed right by the tailgate. the pump has its wires ran, one to the ground, and the other to a 50A toggle switch on my dash. from the toggle switch i have a wire ran down to a fused (50A fuse) distribution block, which is wired to my battery. I have 10 gauge wire all the way through.

Ok so you manually have to turn on the fuel pump when you start it right? Do you have any info on the new pump? Rangers require I want to say 55psi so it could be the pump tries to keep up with the engine but can't which causes it to over heat.

I would either wire it to the factory wiring or at least put a smaller fuse in there man, I would hate to see a fire!

The pump is 85psi/43gph. i would love to wire it to the factory wiring, but the last owner hacked it all up so i couldn't figure out what was what. i'll definitely try the smaller fuse though.

That's a tough one man lol I would contact the manufacturer. The only other thing I could think of is what Todd said already. Also I would keep it out of direct sun light. It's been getting over 100 here in GA lately so I'm sure it's much hotter in FL.

UPDATE....well i just went outside and looked at it some. i unhooked the gas line from the the fuel filter and just ran it back into the top of fuel cell and let the pump run for a while and it never got hot. but once i hook the line back up and crank the truck and run it it gets hot in a couple minutes. so once the fuel pump cools down im gonna unhook the line from the front of the fuel pump and see how much pressure is coming through it, and hope that its just a clogged fuel filter.
