hi i recently purchased a bagged 88 mazda b2200 its carbeurated, it starts fine but runs for a few minutes until the fuel pump stops pumping gas and dies but is still working then i let it sit for a few minutes and it will start pumping it again ..and start ...run for a few minutes...die..the location of the fuel pump is in the engine bay which i've heard that it needs to be close to the fuel tank could this be the problem for the fuel pump to stop pumping the fuel? Should i move it?

..also it has a weber carb. on it that looks old as shit and when the truck is running its using ALOT of fuel and looks like its coming out the tail pipe in smoke (its not blue and smells like fuel) could a new carb. fix this?

...also when its first started up its quiet until it warms the oil up then begins to have a noticable but not real loud tick from the engine that speeds up when gas is applied

help would be great thx!

This is really confusing to me. . .

Disconnect one spark wire at a time while the engine is running and see if the sound changes or goes away.

If it does, then you have probably found the cylinder that has the loose rod (bad bearing) in it.

If that is the case, the sound will get louder, until the engine slings a rod, and then it will get really quiet.

lol yea... DEAD quiet!. ..

yea come to find out its burning oil like crazy...looking into putting a different engine in it..

and by the fuel pump dying but still working...i mean the car dies..it stopped pumping fuel through the pump...but the pump would still turn on i can understand how that was confusing...anyways i've moved the pump close to the tank since then and it hasnt stalled on me...yet..of course i'm not going to drive it very far until i get a new engine to put in it.
