I've been having some problems lately with the vacuum advance on my dizzy, I have been having real problems starting in the mornings and when I floor it from the lights it will sometimes bunnyhop, the starting issue has been going on for a while but the bunnyhop is new.
To try to get it to start (easier) I have replaced
Spark plugs
Leads
Dizzy cap and rotor (running electronic ignition so no points to replace)
Fuel pump
Fuel filter
Air filter
Vacuum hose
Thermostat
water pump
Tensioner and idler bearings
Engine and chassis earth
and have put a rebuild kit through the Carby (factory 2 barrel Nikki)
After all this it still turns over for an eternity and when I finally give up and let go of the key... it starts.
So now I think timing might be the issue.
I have checked my timing and it is sitting quite nicely on 6deg BTDC with the hose disconnected and blocked off.
Then I reconnect it and gave it a quick rev and the timing adjusted but I don't think it's quite adjusting right (far enough), I pulled the hose off the carby outlet (bottom front outlet) and hooked it up to one of the spare ones on the manifold (no pollution rubbish here) and the timing shifts more, revs increase and idles smoother, but since that wasn't where it was connected I return it to the carby and it returns to running rough.
The bunnyhop normally happens only in 1st gear, but today it did it in second for the first time.
Is there any way to check if my vac hose is working enough?
Can I spray air down the hose to clear it or something easy like that? (I don't really want to pull it apart again)
If you don't think it is vacuum or timing what else would you suggest I check?
