My b2000 (at tdc) has the rotor facing 7:30 (clock face position) then turns clockwise after that to no.3, no.4, no.2.
If you wind the engine until it is at 6-8deg btdc on the crank, undo and remove the distributor and look at the shaft you will see a guide line on the shaft, a dimple in the gear itself and a dimple in the engine block.
Line all these up and push distributor back in to the hole and it will self align to position.
Then hook up a test light between the coil positive wire (not ht lead) and the dizzy, turn the ignition on and slowly turn the dizzy either direction until the light turns on.
Do up the dizzy, put rotor back in and remove test light, put cap back on and start plugging in the leads starting at the one the rotor is facing then go clockwise 1.3.4.2, this should get you running.
This is known as static timing and is good for when you put an engine back together also.
I just had to swap my distributor and it is a 4 minute job I was able to do at the local car park with very basic tools.
Hope this helps
