this only happens when the motor is cold and it will smoke bad for about 5 mins then its clear an good to go.

i hope its not the head. dam. more than i wanted to do right now on the motor. lol

check your pvc or your dipstick to make sure it aint a head problem, but hopefully its just a valve seal, and as your truck heats up, it swells the seal, causing the smoke to...stop

pvc is brand new, no water in the oil. oil looks fine.. well it needs changed but ya

i'm hoping after i get this water pump done and put some marvel mystery oil thru
it.. it should be fine... I HOPE!!

have you done a compression test? does the smoke have a blue tint to it?

My 86 was smoking for about 5 min on start up and I just replaced the valve seals. 6 of 8 were oily. I haven't had the chance to reassemble the motor yet because of a broken bolt but i'll let ya know the results.

What makes you believe it might be the water pump?

GL with yours.

so i'm thinking about removing my head? good idea???

i think i will have to replace the valve guides....

and i think possibly most of the smoke when i start it is from the oil in my exahust pipes burning off.. ya think???

I didn't remove my head to replace seals. I just got it put back together last night and ran it. NO SMOKE! I'm going to put together a how to soon.

Not started yet, just haven't had the time. PM me and I can guide you through it if you need to get started. You're going to need a few special tools before you start. A 3/8"dr torque wrench that goes as low as 14 ft lbs, a valve spring compressor and a hose that threads into your spark plug hole that you can supply compressed air into. I'll do my best to get this "how to" added but like I said, PM me and I can guide you through the process via text message. (All the pics I took were with my phone so I can even send pics to you.
