i've got a question...


the plastic black plate underneath the stock carb with the one wire is it still needed??

I'm surprised that you are asking that one here Cody, lol. The PTC heater plate that you are referring to is only needed if you live in a cold climate. What this does is assist in deicing of the carb in cold weather. How it works is that there is a switch/sensor in the bottom of your radiator that is open when cold and closed when hot. When the switch is open it activates a relay (on the PS fender, pic will be enclosed) to send 12V+ from ignition source to the plate. It's a ceramic heater element. When the switch closes up power is disconnected and the heater as well turns off. Haven't you wondered what that PTC fuse was in the fuse box?

Oh no problem we agree, it's all about sharing information. That site is a good resource for engine info and this one is more for customizing, maybe someday we could work together.

another question....

by the distributor theres that tiny black box with a wire to the coil.. do i need to keep that?

also theres another silver box on the core support that wires to the coil. is that needed as well?

im trying to clean up the engine bay as much as possible.

that little black box is a condenser. what it does is eliminates electrical static. Most of the ones on these distributors are gone with time. I installed a universal one on the ground wire for my stereo and it seems to work. most people don't even need it. If it's still good and there then just leave it alone, it's attached to ground.

for the ceramic heater plate, since you are in Oregon I would recommend keeping it. Heck, here in Ga it's a good idea. It's really easy to figure out if it works or not. That 1 wire takes 12V+ and the metal on the bottom is where it connects to ground (your intake manifold.) It takes no current draw when it's off and minimal when it's on (warmup in the cold only.) Provided that all the other components are working well then it can come in handy and is completely automatic.

An added bonus, it doubles as a spacer. The spacer helps the fuel atomize better. It's an old hot rod trick. Just get some longer studs at the part store and keep it there, you'll be happier on colder mornings.

oh, the silver box near the coil. I believe that's just a grounding block. I'm not too sure on this one, you might wanna ask K6 about this one.
